Chrysopelea

Chrysopelea is a genus of snakes, family Colubridae, commonly known as flying snakes or gliding snakes, comprising five recognized species: Chrysopelea ornata, the golden tree snake, Chrysopelea paradisi, the paradise tree snake, Chrysopelea pelias, the twin-barred tree snake, Chrysopelea rhodopleuron, the Moluccan flying snake, and Chrysopelea taprobanica, the Sri Lankan flying snake. The genus inhabits Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as southernmost China, India and Sri Lanka, and is distinguished by its capacity to glide between trees; members carry a mild venom that poses danger only to small prey.
