Coenonympha

Coenonympha is a butterfly genus belonging to Coenonymphina, a subtribe of the browns, subfamily Satyrinae, within the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae, established by Huebner in 1819 and comprising roughly 40 species distributed across Europe, Asia and North America. Palearctic species in the genus are colloquially called heaths, while Nearctic species are called ringlets, though neither term is exclusive to this genus; species show notable geographic variation, with some, such as the Alpine heath, particularly associated with specific regions like the Alps and the northern Balkans.
