Crocodylus is a genus of true crocodiles in the family Crocodylidae, comprising 13 to 14 extant species along with 5 extinct species known from the fossil record extending back roughly 25 million years to the Late Oligocene. Species in the genus occur across tropical regions worldwide, including Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas, making it the most geographically widespread crocodilian genus.
