Daubentonia is the sole genus of the family Daubentoniidae, a lineage of lemuriform primates native to Madagascar. Its only living species is the aye-aye, Daubentonia madagascariensis; a second species, the giant aye-aye (Daubentonia robusta), survived until within the last thousand years before going extinct. The genus was named by Gray in 1863 and belongs to the strepsirrhine superfamily Lemuroidea.
