Funisciurus, the African striped squirrels or rope squirrels, is a genus of squirrel in the subfamily Xerinae and the tribe Protoxerini, found only in western and central Africa. The genus contains ten species, including Lady Burton's rope squirrel, the Congo rope squirrel, Thomas's rope squirrel and the fire footed rope squirrel among others. African striped squirrels have been implicated in spreading monkeypox, including a role in a 2003 outbreak in the midwestern United States.
