Gekko

Gekko is a genus of Southeast Asian geckos, family Gekkonidae, commonly known as true geckos or calling geckos, comprising 88 recognized species with a fossil record extending from the Miocene to the present. The genus is native to Southeast Asia, though some species have become widespread beyond their original range, and now also includes the flying geckos formerly classified separately under the genus Ptychozoon. The type species, the tokay gecko, is the most widespread member, recognizable by its loud distinctive calls, and is very widespread and common, while other members of the genus have very small ranges and are considered rare or endangered.
