Helarctos

Helarctos is a near-monotypic genus of bears, family Ursidae, containing the sun bear, Helarctos malayanus, with two recognized subspecies, the Malayan and Bornean sun bears, found from northeast India south and east through Bangladesh, mainland Southeast Asia, Brunei and Indonesia, with its presence in China confirmed in 2017. It is the smallest bear species, standing nearly 70 centimeters at the shoulder and weighing 25 to 65 kilograms, identified by an orange to cream crescent-shaped chest patch, a stocky build, large curved claws and inward-turned front feet suited to its highly arboreal habits.
