Hemigalus

Hemigalus is a genus of civet in the family Viverridae containing a single living species, the banded palm civet (Hemigalus derbyanus), also called the banded civet, native to Indomalaya. It is cat-sized with pale brown, grey, whitish or buff fur marked by seven to eight dark brown, black or chestnut bands on the face and back, and is found in Myanmar, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, the Mentawai Islands and Borneo up to about 1,660 meters elevation. It is nocturnal, lives mainly in lowland forest under threat from human activity, and is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List with a significant estimated population decline.
