Hydrurga is a monotypic genus of true seal, family Phocidae, containing the single species the leopard seal, native to the Southern Ocean of Antarctica and southern Patagonia. It is a long and muscular seal, countershaded with a silver underside and dark grey upper surface, marked with a leopard-like pattern of dark spots, and is the second largest Antarctic seal species, roughly equal in length to a walrus but weighing about half as much.
