Hypolimnas

Hypolimnas is a genus of tropical brush-footed butterflies, family Nymphalidae, named by Hubner in 1819, commonly known as eggflies or diadems, comprising approximately 23 species found mainly in Africa, Asia and Oceania. One species, the Danaid eggfly, Hypolimnas misippus, has an exceptionally wide range spanning five continents and is the only Hypolimnas species found in the Americas. The genus displays marked sexual dimorphism and Batesian mimicry of poisonous milkweed butterflies, subfamily Danainae, adopting their warning coloration without being toxic themselves.
