Ichneumia

Ichneumia is a genus of mongoose in the family Herpestidae containing a single living species, the white-tailed mongoose (Ichneumia albicauda). It is among the largest mongooses, averaging about 3.38 kilograms and 53 to 71 centimeters in head and body length, with a bushy tail making up as much as 40 percent of its total length, brownish yellow at the base and white toward the tip. Its body is yellow to tan with long black guard hairs giving a grizzled grey look, and it inhabits most of Africa south of the Sahara and the southern Arabian Peninsula. It is primarily nocturnal, terrestrial and largely solitary, and unlike many other mongooses it rarely stands upright on its hind feet.
