Junonia

Junonia is a genus of butterflies, family Nymphalidae, comprising roughly 30 to 35 species, commonly called buckeyes, pansies or commodores, and flying on every continent except Antarctica and Europe. Members are medium to large butterflies with wingspans of 40 to 110 millimeters, typically brown or grey ground coloration with blue suffusion and distinctive orange, blue or pink spots, smooth prominent eyes, notably long pointed palpi, and hindwings with tooth-like dental margins. Larvae feed on a wide range of plant families and bear branched spines. Well known species include the common buckeye, Junonia coenia, the peacock pansy, Junonia almana, the meadow argus, Junonia villida, and the blue pansy, Junonia orithya.
