Kronosaurus

Kronosaurus is an extinct genus of large, short-necked pliosaur that lived during the Aptian to Albian stages of the Early Cretaceous period in what is now Australia. A first specimen was recovered in 1899, and in 1924 Albert Heber Longman formally described it as the holotype of Kronosaurus queenslandicus, which remains the only recognized species in the genus. The genus name, meaning lizard of Kronos, refers to the animal's great size and its likely ferocity, evoking the Titan of Greek mythology, while the species name refers to Queensland, the Australian state where it was discovered.
