Leuciscus

Leuciscus is a genus of freshwater and brackish water fish, family Leuciscidae, a family split from the traditional Cyprinidae, commonly called Eurasian daces, comprising 19 recognized species, widespread from Europe to Siberia. Taxonomic revision has narrowed the genus over time; European chubs formerly classified in Leuciscus are now typically placed in the separate genus Squalius, and genera such as Petroleuciscus and Telestes have also been split off. Well known species include the common dace, Leuciscus leuciscus, broadly distributed across Europe, the ide, Leuciscus idus, another prominent European species, and the asp, Leuciscus aspius.
