Lobodon

Lobodon is a monotypic genus of true seal, family Phocidae, containing the single species the crabeater seal, with a circumpolar range around the coast of Antarctica, mainly inhabiting free-floating pack ice that extends seasonally from the continent. Population estimates range from 7 million to 75 million individuals, making it by far the most abundant seal species in the world. It is medium to large in size with a relatively slender build and pale coloration, and has a distinctive sieve-like tooth structure with finely lobed teeth specialized for filtering krill from the water.
