Macaca

Macaca is a genus of Old World monkeys comprising 23 species, most listed as vulnerable to critically endangered, found across Asia from Japan to the Indian subcontinent and, in the case of the Barbary macaque, in North Africa and Gibraltar in southern Europe. Macaques are robust monkeys with arms and legs of similar length, rounded muzzles and tails that vary by species from long to absent, and they are principally frugivorous, also eating seeds, leaves, flowers and bark. Social groups are organized around dominant matriarchs.
