Macrogalidia

Macrogalidia is a monospecific genus of civet in the family Viverridae containing a single species, the Sulawesi palm civet (Macrogalidia musschenbroekii), a little-known viverrid endemic to Sulawesi and the only carnivoran native to the island. It has a light brownish chestnut, soft, short coat with light hairs intermixed and a tail with alternating dark and pale brown rings, measuring about 89 centimeters in head-body length with a 64 centimeter tail, and inhabits lowland, lower and upper montane forest up to about 2,600 meters. It is partially arboreal and apparently nocturnal, feeding on small mammals, fruit and grass with occasional predation on birds and farm animals, and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List with a population decline of more than 30 percent over three generations.
