Mellivora

Mellivora is a genus of mustelids in the subfamily Mellivorinae, containing a single living species, the honey badger or ratel (Mellivora capensis). The honey badger ranges across much of Africa and South Asia, while fossil relatives of the genus, including the probable ancestor Mellivora benfieldi, are known from Southern Europe and elsewhere from the Late Miocene onward. A molar attributed to a species of Mellivora has also been recovered from Pleistocene strata, indicating the genus once had a wider distribution than the modern honey badgers range.
