Microcaldus is a monotypic genus of ultra-small archaea, containing the single species Microcaldus variisymbioticus. It is placed in the monotypic family Microcaldaceae, the monotypic order Microcaldales, the monotypic class Microcaldia and the monotypic phylum Microcaldota. Its name reflects its ability to live symbiotically with other microbes.
