Mungotictis

Mungotictis is a genus in the family Eupleridae containing a single living species, the narrow-striped mongoose (Mungotictis decemlineata), endemic to Madagascar, living from sea level to about 125 meters between the Tsiribihina and Mangoky Rivers in the island's west. It is diurnal and lives in matriarchal family groups that practice cooperative rearing of young, and it is primarily insectivorous, supplementing its diet with bird eggs and small animals including rodents, birds and snakes. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List because it occurs in a severely fragmented area threatened by habitat loss from logging and conversion to agricultural land.
