Nannosciurus is a monotypic genus containing the single species Nannosciurus melanotis, the black-eared squirrel, found in forests of Borneo, Sumatra, and Java. A tiny squirrel resembling the least pygmy squirrel, it is distinguished by striking whitish and black facial markings, was first described by Salomon Muller in 1840, and is listed as Least Concern.
