Ophiophagus

Ophiophagus is a genus of snakes endemic to Asia containing the king cobra, a species complex with an average length of 3.18 to 4 metres and a record length of 5.85 metres, making it the world's longest venomous snake and among the heaviest. Despite its common name and some resemblance, the king cobra is not phylogenetically a true cobra, belonging instead to its own genus, Ophiophagus. Its range spans from the Indian subcontinent through Southeast Asia to southern China, and though widely distributed it is not commonly seen.
