Orcinus

Orcinus is a genus of dolphins, family Delphinidae, containing a single living species, the orca or killer whale, Orcinus orca, found in all oceans and most seas from Arctic to Antarctic waters with a preference for higher latitudes and coastal areas. It is recognized by a black and white pattern of white eye patches, a white lower jaw and underside, and a grey or white saddle patch behind the dorsal fin; males reach 6 to 8 meters and over 6 tons, females 5 to 7 meters and 3 to 4 tons. As an apex predator its diet varies by population, some groups specializing in fish such as salmon and others in marine mammals including seals, dolphins and whales, consuming roughly 227 kilograms of prey per individual per day on average.
