Paleosuchus

Paleosuchus is a South American genus of reptiles in the subfamily Caimaninae of family Alligatoridae, comprising two extant species, Cuvier's dwarf caiman and the smooth-fronted caiman, also called Schneider's dwarf caiman. Cuvier's dwarf caiman ranges across Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Venezuela, while the smooth-fronted caiman occupies the Amazon and Orinoco basins; both are the smallest members of the order Crocodilia in the Americas, distinguished from other caimans by the absence of an interorbital ridge and by four rather than five teeth in the premaxilla.
