Perisoreus is a very small genus of three jay species from the boreal regions of North America and Eurasia, in the crow family Corvidae and most closely related to the genus Cyanopica. The Canada jay is found across North America north to the tree line and in Rocky Mountain subalpine zones south to New Mexico and Arizona, with a population near 26 million; the Siberian jay is distributed through northern Eurasia with 2.1 to 4.2 million individuals; and the Sichuan jay, the rarest, is restricted to northwestern Sichuan province in China with only 12,000 to 20,500 individuals. The genus was introduced in 1831 by Charles Lucien Bonaparte.
