Phalanger

Phalanger is a genus of marsupials, subfamily Phalangerinae, family Phalangeridae, order Diprotodontia, comprising thirteen species commonly known as cuscuses, with the northern common cuscus as its type species. Phalangers inhabit New Guinea, the Maluku Islands, other nearby small islands and Australia's Cape York Peninsula. The genus name derives from the Greek word for spider's web, referencing the animals' webbed, fused toes. Species in the genus include the ground cuscus, the northern common cuscus, the silky cuscus and the ornate cuscus, all possum-family marsupials found across the genus's Australasian range.
