Phocarctos

Phocarctos is a monotypic genus of eared seal, family Otariidae, containing the single species Phocarctos hookeri, the New Zealand sea lion, endemic to New Zealand and breeding primarily on the subantarctic Auckland and Campbell Islands, with a growing number recolonizing the South and Stewart Islands in recent years. One of the largest New Zealand animals, it shows marked sexual dimorphism, with adult males reaching 240 to 350 centimeters and 320 to 450 kilograms against adult females at 180 to 200 centimeters and 90 to 160 kilograms. The population is estimated at fewer than 10,000 individuals, including fewer than 5,000 breeding adults, down from more than 15,000 in the early 2000s, making it one of the world's rarest sea lion species.
