Phoenicopterus is a genus of flamingos comprising three living species, the greater flamingo, the American flamingo and the Chilean flamingo, along with five species known only from fossils, formally established by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. The greater flamingo is widespread across Africa and southwest to south-central Eurasia, the American flamingo ranges across the northern Galapagos Islands and the Caribbean, and the Chilean flamingo occurs from central Peru through Tierra del Fuego into southern Brazil, Uruguay and central Argentina. The greater and American flamingos are classified as Least Concern and the Chilean flamingo as Near Threatened.
