Prolemur

Prolemur is a genus in the bamboo lemur group of family Lemuridae containing a single species, the greater bamboo lemur, also called the broad-nosed bamboo lemur or broad-nosed gentle lemur. It is the largest bamboo lemur at over 2.3 kilograms, with greyish brown fur, white ear tufts and long tails and back legs adapted for vertical leaping, and is endemic to Madagascar, now restricted to the southeast of the island though fossils show a once much wider range. It ranks among the most critically endangered primates in the world, with only about 500 individuals remaining across 11 subpopulations, after having been believed extinct before its rediscovery in 1986.
