Propithecus

Propithecus is a genus of lemurs known as sifakas, in the family Indriidae, comprising nine species found only on the island of Madagascar. Their name is an onomatopoeia of their characteristic shi-fak alarm call; they are medium sized, with a head and body length of 40 to 55 centimeters and a weight of 3 to 6 kilograms, a tail as long as the body, distinguishing them from the related genus Indri, and long silky fur of variable color with an always black hairless face. Sifakas move by vertical clinging and leaping, capable of leaps up to 10 meters between trees, and all nine species are threatened, ranging from endangered to critically endangered.
