Pteromyscus is a genus of flying squirrel containing the single species Pteromyscus pulverulentus, the smoky flying squirrel, found in Brunei, Indonesia, Peninsular Malaysia, and southern Thailand. It is a small squirrel, some 22 to 29 centimeters in body length with an 18 to 23 centimeter tail, that forages at night in pristine forest for fruit, nuts, and fungi, and is only rarely sighted even where its forest habitat survives; the species is considered endangered after an estimated fifty percent population decline from habitat destruction.
