Ratufa

Ratufa is a genus of large tree squirrel commonly called oriental giant squirrels, placed in the subfamily Ratufinae within the squirrel family Sciuridae. The genus contains four living species, found across South and Southeast Asia including India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Members of the genus are roughly cat sized, among the largest living squirrels, and the fossil record for the group extends back to the Middle Miocene, about sixteen million years. The four extant species are the cream coloured giant squirrel, the black giant squirrel, the Indian giant squirrel and the grizzled giant squirrel.
