Rubrisciurus is a monotypic genus containing the single species Rubrisciurus rubriventer, the red-bellied or Sulawesi giant squirrel, classified within Callosciurus until taxonomists moved it to its own genus in the 1990s. Endemic to the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, where it is widespread, and also recorded on nearby Sangir Island, it is a notably large squirrel at about 25 centimeters in head and body length that lives in the treetops of Sulawesi's rainforest and is listed as Vulnerable.
