Zoothera

Zoothera is a genus of medium-sized, mostly insectivorous or omnivorous birds, family Turdidae, known as Asian thrushes, comprising 22 species, one of them, the Bonin thrush, extinct since around the 1830s. The genus is primarily Asian in distribution, with some species also found in Africa and the Pacific islands, occupying habitats ranging from alpine environments to tropical forests; the genus name combines Ancient Greek terms meaning animal and hunter. It was established in 1832 by Nicholas Vigors, with the long-billed thrush as the type species.
