Actinomycetales

Actinomycetales is an order of the phylum Actinomycetota, a group of Gram-positive bacteria long mistaken for fungi, which is why the order's name still reflects the old term actinomycetes. Members generally grow with a filamentous, branching pattern resembling fungal mycelia, some forming rod or coccoid shapes and others producing spores on aerial hyphae. The order ranges from harmless soil organisms to antibiotic-resistant pathogens, and its members are susceptible to bacteriophages known as actinophages.
