Afrosoricida is an order of small African mammals comprising the golden moles of southern Africa, the otter shrews of equatorial Africa and the tenrecs of Madagascar. These animals were long misclassified within the now abandoned orders Insectivora or Lipotyphla before genetic evidence showed they instead belong to their own distinct African lineage.
