Archaeognatha is an order of wingless insects commonly known as bristletails, among the most evolutionarily primitive living insects. The order appeared in the Middle Devonian period at roughly the same time as the arachnids, and fossils closely resembling living species have been found throughout the remainder of the Paleozoic Era; an older name for the order is Microcoryphia.
