Osteoglossiformes

Osteoglossiformes, meaning bony tongues, is a relatively primitive order of ray finned fish comprising the suborders Osteoglossoidei and Notopteroidei, with at least 245 living species, all of them freshwater fish found in South America, Africa, Australia and southern Asia. The group is thought to have first evolved in the ancient supercontinent Gondwana before it broke apart, though fossil marine species from the Eocene suggest the broader group was not always confined to fresh water.
