Pandanales

Pandanales is an order of flowering plants placed in the monocot clade, comprising five families, 36 genera, and approximately 1,610 species, and forming a sister group to Dioscoreales. Members range from large woody plants of tropical rainforests to climbing vines, lianas, and small herbaceous species; many are achlorophyllous mycoheterotrophs or saprophytes, and the order is distinguished in part by the loss of trimery seen in many other lilioid monocots. As with related orders, modern classification rests primarily on molecular phylogenetics rather than shared visible characteristics.
