The odd-toed ungulates: hoofed mammals that bear their weight mainly on a single central toe (or, in rhinoceroses, three toes symmetrical around the center). Perissodactyla includes horses, rhinoceroses and tapirs, a much smaller order today than the ecologically similar Artiodactyla.
