Raphidioptera is an order of predatory insects known as snakeflies, comprising two living families, Raphidiidae and Inocelliidae, with roughly 260 species. The order was once far more widespread than today; snakeflies are now found only in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere and are absent from the tropics and the Southern Hemisphere, having reached their peak diversity in the Cretaceous before a substantial decline.
