Scorpiones is the order of scorpions, predatory arachnids with eight legs, a pair of grasping pincers, and a narrow segmented tail ending in a venomous stinger. More than 2,500 species across 22 living families have been described, and the group's fossil lineage reaches back roughly 430 million years to the Silurian period. Scorpions are most diverse in deserts but live on every continent except Antarctica.
