Vibrionales is an order of Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacteria in the phylum Pseudomonadota, built around the family Vibrionaceae. Its members ferment sugars, produce oxidase, and typically swim using one or more polar flagella; they live in fresh or salt water and include the pathogen Vibrio cholerae, the agent of cholera. Most of the ocean's bioluminescent bacteria belong to this order, frequently living as light-producing symbionts of deep-sea animals.
