Chlamydiae is a phylum of obligate intracellular bacteria that can only reproduce inside the cells of a host organism. Its best known member, Chlamydia trachomatis, is a major cause of sexually transmitted infection worldwide and, in some regions, a leading preventable cause of blindness.
