A phylum of fungi that form obligate arbuscular mycorrhizal symbioses with the roots of the great majority of land plant species, exchanging soil phosphorus and other minerals for plant sugars. Glomeromycota fungi cannot complete their life cycle without a plant host and are not known to reproduce sexually.
