Zoopagomycota is a phylum of fungi established once genetic analysis separated it from the older grouping of zygomycete fungi, uniting mostly parasitic species that attack amoebae, nematodes, and other small invertebrates and microorganisms. Many Zoopagomycota species are obligate parasites, meaning they can only complete their life cycle inside a host, and the phylum also includes some species that live in symbiotic association with the digestive tracts of arthropods.
