Galliformes

Bird Orders

Ground-dwelling, mostly heavy-bodied birds with strong legs adapted for scratching at the ground for food and short, rounded wings suited to brief bursts of flight rather than sustained travel. Galliformes includes chickens, turkeys, pheasants and quail, and is the order from which every domesticated poultry species descends.
