Archaeal Orders

Archaeal orders are the divisions of each archaeal class. The class Thermoprotei, published by Reysenbach in 2002 and placed in the phylum Thermoproteota of the kingdom Thermoproteati, holds the orders Acidilobales, Desulfurococcales, Fervidicoccales, Sulfolobales, Thermofilales and Thermoproteales, with Igneococcales also listed beneath it. Its type genus is Thermoproteus, described by Zillig and Stetter in 1982, and the class name was first published in Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology in 2001 before being validated in 2002.
