Amur Leopard

The Amur leopard is a critically endangered subspecies of leopard native to the Primorye region of far southeastern Russia and adjacent northern China, the northernmost population of any leopard in the world. Fewer than 130 sub-adult and adult individuals were estimated to survive as of 2023, a dramatic recovery from a low of only 19 to 26 wild leopards estimated in 2007, though the subspecies remains critically endangered. Genetic research has shown the Amur leopard to be closely related to leopard populations once found in northern China and Korea, and a once-separate North Chinese leopard subspecies was folded into it in 2017 after study showed the two were not genetically distinct.
