Barber's Clownfish

Barber's clownfish (Amphiprion barberi) lives in the western Pacific, occurring reliably only around Fiji, Tonga, and the Samoan Islands. It was formally described as a distinct species only in 2008, having previously been treated as a color variant of related anemonefish. Adults reach a maximum of 8.5 centimeters and are red orange with a single white stripe, an orange snout and breast, and orange fins, and the species associates exclusively with the bubble tip anemone and the sebae anemone. Like other anemonefish it lives in a protected symbiosis with its host and follows the group's typical hierarchical breeding system, in which the breeding male becomes female if the sole breeding female dies.
